There's Hope for Integration

19 April 2018

There’s some hope for integration between the county SICPA program and the state METRC track ‘n trace program. A new paragraph appeared on the county track n trace page:

Metrc Integration We are pleased to announce that the Mendocino Track and Trace system, CalOrigin, has received certification by Metrc to interface with the State Track and Trace program through the API services. CalOrigin will seamlessly integrate to the degree possible through the APIs offered by the state to minimize duplicative data entry for our operators that choose to have a single interface for local and state compliance. To support the state system requirements, there will be a number of new data elements required that include state license numbers, Metrc credentials and weights by plant. We will be working over the coming weeks to prepare the instructions for users so that you can be understand the how to connect your CalOrigin account with Metrc and what additional data you will be required to enter for compliance with the State system. We are planning for this functionality to be operational in June to adapt to the requirement for entry into the State system by July 1, 2018.

Vague promises but a sign there’s hope. The key here is “CalOrigin will seamlessly integrate to the degree possible…” This is because the state policy does not allow METRC to handle transfers through the API, meaning they must be entered directly in METRC. Since transfers are critical and the biggest security issue, I guess they feel this must be done directly even though other states using the system do transfers through the api. We’ll see if that changes.

Look for more on differences between SICPA and METRC in my next post along with getting set up and entering your first data.
